What Happens to Your Brain When You Watch Porn

Pornography on the Brain

Today we are going to be discussing the affects of Pornography on the brain, the process that your brain goes through from beginning to end of your PMO (Porn, Masturbation, Orgasm) session, and specifically what bio-chemicals are released during your PMO session.

Why do I need to know any of this?

How can you you truly understand yourself, and better yourself if you don't know what is happening inside your body, especially if you don't understand how one activity is affecting you, positively or negatively. It's like asking the cigarette smoker from the 70's and 80's "Do you know what you're putting in your body?" He would just say "it feels good, so it must be healthy", that's the understanding we have of porn, but it's deeper than that

Home alone

Not the movie, but that kid probably jerked off too while his parent's were gone, haha. When you're alone at home, whether you're living with your parents or not, you will feel an urge to PMO. But why? Well the answer is simple: it's habitual, and a habit repeats itself. Your environment is a trigger for your behaviours, as you've grown up in your house you've conditioned your body to associate certain behaviours to certain environments, so your bed, maybe the toilet, and especially your phone can be behavioural triggers.

Why do I mention this?

Because overcoming your addiction to Pornography is not a simple "I quit", it will literally take a few years to rewire those negative behavioural associations, seriously. I have been trying to quit porn for a good three years now, and am getting to a point where I can control how I react to these "triggers".

Norepinephrine

The initial thought of porn can trigger a chemical called Norepinephrine, a chemical that is release when you are either afraid or excited by something, even a thought. Norepinephrine is the adrenaline of the body, in most cases it is used for fight or flight situations. This chemical will give you a sense of alertness, and a feeling of energy throughout the body.

Dopamine

You open up your laptop and begin browsing the internet for some nudes of Celina Gomez and all the sudden you feel really motivated to find that perfect GIF. Now what you are experiencing is hits of Dopamine, this chemical induces feelings of motivation and pleasure. One picture after another you're forcing your brain to release more and more Dopamine, this occurs because through observation you are experiencing novelty every 5 to 10 seconds.

Your brain can't tell the difference between the Digital World and Reality, for the brain it's all the same, so when you're seeing a photo of a naked women your brain is initiating reproduction mode. And since you are switching from one women to the next, over and over again this causes a Dopamine overload; meaning that your brain is producing an excessive amount of Dopamine.

Endorphins, Oxytocin, Vasopressin and Serotonin

After a long run or an intense exercise you will feel a sort of a euphoria throughout your whole body, this is similar to what happens after an a nice orgasm. Once you climax, endorphins are released to block the nerve endings and this is what creates that feeling of "high" throughout the body.

Soon after, Oxytocin and Vasopressin are released within the brain to create a long-term association to the experience and object (which should be a person) which allowed for the sexual release, but in this case it is just our laptop or smartphone.

Lastly, we have Serotonin. This is the "feel good" chemical that makes you feel all warm and happy afterwards, it is like the "calm down" chemical which puts you in a relaxed state after an intense climax.

To Summarise

This is the process that your brain/ body go through during a PMO experience, so I hope now you understand why it feels so good. A lot of folks PMO more than once a day, maybe three to four times in some cases, I used to be like this too. And you might believe that doing this won't harm you, but it will... over time your brain won't be able to keep up with your "demand" for dopamine and once you get to this stage you will begin to feel depressed. Dopamine is one chemical that keep us motivated and moving, and if you no longer respond to the amount of dopamine being produced, you will crash.

Life I stated previously, the brain cannot differentiate between REALITY and THE DIGITAL WORLD, so "you" the consciousness must guide the brain/ body in the right direction, you are the decisions maker so make sure you make decisions that allows for a happier and healthier being.
